CHOOKLYN DOWNLOADS:
Hey NJ
Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey
(Yer Rockin' To) Our Single Debut
Because I've been slackin' on my blog duties this week, I've decided to do what I did last time and post a block of three new rockin' tunes from Chooklyn. Are you excited? Well you should be, because this is the first time for all three of these tunes on the blog.
The first song is Hey NJ. For me, Hey NJ has the best chorus on the album, with maybe the possible exception of Dots Make Lines / Lines Make Sound. It's the kind of chorus you sing with yer fists pumping in the air and yer head banging up and down. While the lyrics were written about a specific (and special) someone, it's dedicated to any woman who's OK with being labeled a Jersey girl. (Also kudos to Bram for the blistering solo on this one.)
Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey is the second Bramstrumental on the record. Again Bram uses sound bites from the answering machine tapes I dug up. You can hear snippets of me talking about our old drummer Mike Baker (who is the inspiration for the title of this tune), Baker asking if I'm dead, Justice heavily breathing "pick up" and Chooklyn's mystery woman asking a question.
The last song is the power pop anthem, (Yer Rockin' To) Our Single Debut. The lyrics for this song are metalyrics, where the lyrics I am singing are about the lyrics I am singing. My favorite line: "And there's a line about how she can be / a bit shy and candid / And there's another about her shirt that says / I Heart Pandas."
